ILSI's Global Rebranding
ILSI is pleased to announce our global rebrand, which includes a new logo, a refreshed visual identity and an updated website, reflecting the organization’s evolution and its aspirations for the future.
Over the past two years, ILSI has completed a transformation that includes a refined mission focused on nutrition, food safety and sustainability, a new infrastructure and re-envisioned governance.
As a non-profit, global scientific organization, ILSI will continue to foster cooperation among scientists in government, academia and industry. The rebrand symbolizes the organization’s renewed commitment to generating and advancing groundbreaking research within a framework of the highest principles of scientific integrity, for the betterment of public health.
ILSI 2022 Annual Meeting
The 2022 ILSI Annual Meeting will be held in Brussels, Belgium from June 27 – 30, as a hybrid event. With an overarching theme of Toward a Global Community to Achieve a Safe and Sustainable Diet, Scientific Sessions at the Annual Meeting will address many important topics, including:
- Food Safety in the post-Covid World
- Climate Change and sustainability
- Metabolomics and Foodomics for Health Impact
- Improving Credibility and Integrity of Nutrition Research
- Global initiatives to Improve Population Health

ILSI SEA Region Annual Meeting and Science Session
ILSI Southeast Region held its 2022 Annual Meeting on April 26th in Singapore. This yearly gathering provides a platform for Members, Board of Directors, Science Advisors and entity Staff to meet, exchange updates, and strengthen partnerships. This year’s meeting was held in a hybrid format, with participants attending in-person at the Sheraton Towers Singapore, and virtually. With improvements in the pandemic situation in most parts of the world and the gradual easing of social and travel restrictions, the entity was happy to welcome guests and attendees who were able to travel to Singapore or attend online despite busy schedules and time differences.
This year’s Annual Meeting included updates on Strategic Plans for ILSI and ILSI SEA Region, as well as a Science Session and Panel Discussion.

Symposium on Optimizing Health, Wellness and Human Potential
Globally, life expectancy has increased due to declining infant mortality rates, lower mortality from infectious disease, medical advancements, better chronic disease management, and socioeconomic progress. While global life expectancy may have increased, this has not always translated to living in good health even as we live longer. This symposium discussed the key elements of optimizing one’s health, wellness, and potential over our life course, supported by the surrounding environment and the application of innovative technologies.

11th Nutrition Labeling and Claims Webinar
Since 2001, ILSI SEA Region has facilitated a series of seminars and workshops for regulators, researchers and scientists, and relevant food industry personnel from the region to discuss issues on nutrition labeling and claims. The 11th webinar in the series provided updates on regional developments and changes in nutrition labeling, nutrition and health claims, front-of-pack labeling and related issues in SEA, harmonization efforts of nutrition labeling in SEA, CCFL developments for front-of-pack labeling guidelines, and a discussion on consumers’ understanding of nutrition labeling and claims.

Workshop on Microbiological Risk Assessment
Microbiological risk assessment (MRA) is a useful tool to help regulatory agencies identify appropriate measures to minimize the adverse impact of food pathogens on human health. This workshop, organized in collaboration with the ASEAN Risk Assessment Centre, served to kick-start a capacity building initiative focused on preparing risk assessment requests for quantitative MRA. The workshop was attended by risk managers and assessors, and other relevant authorities in ASEAN.

ILSI SEA Region Functional Foods Monograph (Revised January 2022)
Since 2001, ILSI SEA Region has been working in the area of functional foods and claims by facilitating a series of seminars, workshops and expert consultations for regulators, researchers and scientists, and relevant food industry personnel to discuss important issues on nutrition labeling and claims in the Asian region. ILSI SEA Region’s Functional Foods Monograph was first published in 2017. The revised edition published in January 2022 includes new case studies on Prebiotics and Probiotics.

Analysis of Selected Dietary Intake Indicators in the Vietnam 2020 General National Nutrition Survey

ILSI SEA Region and the University of Leeds are collaborating with Vietnam’s National Institute of Nutrition on a research project to study the causes and potential solutions to the double burden of malnutrition and overnutrition.
This research project being carried out in Vietnam focuses on the analysis of selected dietary intake indicators in the Vietnam 2020 General National Nutrition Survey, to better understand dietary intake and blood analysis of selected nutrients among targeted Vietnamese population groups.
As part of this project, ILSI SEA Region and Univerisity of Leeds organised two collaborative workshops on January 2021 and March 2022, to share updates and recent developments in Southeast Asia relating to the assessment of double burden, as well as strategies and programs to address the issues.

Seminar on Dietary Proteins: Consumption Trends, Innovations for Health and Sustainability

ILSI SEA Region will be organizing a science seminar in August 2022 on the hot topic of Dietary Proteins, examining protein intake requirements, current consumption trends, as well as rapid innovations in the development of alternative protein sources to promote better health and environmental sustainability.

IUFoST 2022
The 21st World Congress of Food Science & Technology, organized by the Singapore Institute of Food Science and Technology (SIFST) with endorsement of the International Union of Food Science & Technology (IUFoST), will focus on the theme of Future of Food: Innovation, Sustainability & Health. It will be held at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre, Singapore; as a silver sponsor, ILSI will be supporting three technical sessions on food proteins, foodomics and food packaging, in collaboration with ILSI SEA Region and CSIRO of Australia.
