Science Symposium: ReThink Carbohydrates – Science, Health and Regulatory Development
April 24, 2024, Pullman Kuala Lumpur City Centre Hotel, Malaysia
This 1-day IN-PERSON symposium, organized by ILSI SEA Region and co-organized by the International Food Safety Training Centre (IFSTC), Ministry of Health, Malaysia and Nutrition Society of Malaysia (NSM), will provide an opportunity to review the role of carbohydrates in human nutrition and health, providing the latest scientific and regulatory updates from international and regional experts, researchers and regulatory personnel.

Celebrating Dr. Suzanne S. Harris: A Tribute from ILSI SEA Region
In loving memory of Dr. Suzanne "Suzie" S. Harris, esteemed Executive Director of the International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI) who passed away on November 5, 2023 at the age of 78, we celebrate a life of extraordinary impact and profound legacy in the fields of chemistry and life sciences.
Joining the executive team of ILSI in 1989, Dr. Harris held various pivotal roles, including Executive Director for both ILSI and the ILSI Research Foundation. Her leadership and expertise were instrumental in shaping the organization's mission and fostering global collaboration in critical domains such as nutrition, food safety, and public health. After years of dedicated service, Dr. Harris retired from ILSI in 2017, leaving behind a lasting legacy of excellence and collaboration.
Colleagues and Board representatives from the Southeast Asia Region who have worked with her will always remember and treasure the long friendship, her dedication and integrity, and the support she provided throughout her leadership at ILSI Global and ILSI Research Foundation. Recognizing Excellence in Nutrition: ASN Class of 2024 Fellows
The American Nutrition Society (ASN) and ASN Foundation announced the 15 distinguished luminaries who will be inducted into the ASN Class of 2024 Fellows. Among this year's exceptional group of awardees is a valued member of the ILSI SEA Region Board of Directors, Prof. Christiani Jeyakumar Henry, Senior Advisor at the Biomedical Research Council (BMRC), Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), Singapore. Fellows of the ASN are recognized for their significant contributions and outstanding lifetime achievements in the field of nutrition, who have not only contributed significantly to the advancement of nutrition but have also paved the way for future generations of scientists, clinicians, and scholars. Seminar on Integrating Nutrition and Food Processing for Healthy Food Choices: Science, Technology and Consumer Guidance
December 4-5, 2023 | Jakarta, Indonesia
The seminar organized in collaboration with National Agency for Food and Drug Control, Indonesia (BPOMP), Healthy Ministry, GAPMMI, SEAFAST Center, and IPB University, Indonesia, addressed food consumption and nutrient quality among target populations in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. It highlighted recent advancements in food processing aimed at promoting health and preventing non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Read more
1st Asian Life Sciences Institutes Network (ALSIN) Meeting
October 25-27, 2023, | Taiwan
At the inaugural meeting of the Asian Life Sciences Institutes Network (ALSIN), a Science Symposium on Application of Multi-omics on Probiotic, Prebiotic and Postbiotic Studies: Safety, Functionality and Precision Health was organized. The meeting convened leading scientists and experts to delve into the forefront of scientific advancements in emerging food and nutrition safety, risk assessment, and regulatory interests. It also served as a platform for discussions on potential collaborations within the Asian region. ILSI SEA Region supported 6 presentations covering diverse topics such as gut microbiome, probiotics, cell-based proteins, and regulatory updates on food fortification and bioactives. Read More

Seminar on Food Crop Plant Protection: Recent Advances, Best Practices, and Future Directions for Sustainable Food Systems
November 28-29, 2023 | Hanoi, Vietnam
This 2-day seminar, co-organized by CropLife Asia and Plant Protection Research Institute (PPRI), Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences, reviewed the best practices of applications of plant protection chemicals currently in use in Vietnam, proper application techniques, human and environmental exposure and data gaps, and potential improved approaches to current practices.
Seminar on Food Flavorings
December 14, 2023 | Bangkok, Thailand
In collaboration with the Food Science and Technology Association of Thailand (FoSTAT) and the International Organization of the Flavor Industry (IOFI), this half-day seminar provided regulatory updates on food additives and flavors, including discussions on safety assessment approaches for flavors and a multi-stakeholder dialogue. Following the seminar, a closed-door session focused on industry guidelines for utilizing steviol glycosides as flavorings with modifying properties (FMPs) was held, along with discussions on the safety assessment of steviol glycosides for this purpose.

Sustainability of the Philippine Food System

This publication provided a comprehensive analysis of the sustainability of the Philippine food system using the Sustainable Nutrition Security (SNS) metrics. The study utilized quantitative analysis to evaluate various aspects of the Philippine food system. Read more
