04/03/2013 – 05/03/2013
BACKGROUND
Widespread demographic changes are taking place in Asia. Countries within the region are starting to experience a rate of population aging that presents unique challenges to government policy makers and health professionals. As the population ages, chronic diseases become more prevalent, and this will both tax the healthcare system and increase public health spending. Nutrition and health strategies to prevent disease, as well as programs to promote healthy aging, have become an urgent priority.
This two-day meeting 'Conference on Healthy Aging in Asia - Strategies to Meet Health and Lifestyle Challenges' was organized by ILSI Southeast Asia Region, together with Health Promotion Board, Singapore and in collaboration with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), Australia.
