Regional Seminar on Nutrition Labeling and Claims

In collaboration with the Food Safety and Quality Programme (FSQP), Ministry of Health, Malaysia, and Nutrition Society of Malaysia (NSM), this one-day regional seminar will feature updates on the latest developments in nutrition labeling, nutrition and health claims regulations, and front-of-pack labeling, with key insights from Southeast Asia and China. It also offers a valuable platform for scientific exchange and multistakeholder discussion on harmonization efforts and substantiation of claims. ILSI SEA Region Session at IUNS-ICN 2025 in Paris

ILSI Southeast Asia Region hosted a Scientific session at the 23rd International Congress of Nutrition (IUNS-ICN 2025) held in Paris, France. Distinguished speakers presented updates on key efforts relating to Nutrient Recommendations and Meal-based Nutrient Profiling in Southeast Asia, including the review of Recommended Nutrient Intake Values in Southeast Asian countries, strategies for harmonizing nutrient reference values, use of meal-based nutrient profiling systems to improve consumer awareness of nutritional quality, and nutrient profile model as a practical tool for guiding reformulation and public health interventions. Nutrition and Healthy Longevity: Bridging Science, Innovations and Policy in Southeast Asia
6 - 7 August 2025, Singapore
Organized in collaboration with partnering institutions in academia, research and government, the 2-day symposium featured the latest science on aging, including the roles of nutrition, inflammaging, and immune-senescence, alongside early and mid-life interventions. It also highlighted innovative tools, technologies, and policy strategies to support healthy longevity and reduce the healthcare burden of ageing. Researchers from academia, government and industry also presented their research posters, with selected entries featured in a rapid-fire session, and recognition awarded to outstanding posters and presentation. Food Allergen Asia 2025
25 – 26 June 2025, Bangkok, Thailand
The two-day conference organized by the Asia Life Sciences Institutes Network (ALSIN), co-organized by ILSI Global, and in partnership with several other institutions, was held 25 – 26 June 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand. The event brought together experts from across Asia and around the world to share the latest developments in allergen control measures, allergen labeling requirements, including definitions of Precautionary Allergen Labelling (PAL), as well as allergen prevalence in Asia and advancements in allergen testing. ReThink Food Reformulation – Advancing the Nutrition and Health Agenda in Southeast Asia
April 22, 2025, Bangkok, Thailand
A 1-day symposium was organized in collaboration with the Thailand Food and Beverage Industry Club (FTI) on 23 April 2025 at the Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong Hotel, Thailand. The symposium gathered participants from industry, academia, government agencies, and professional bodies to examine the role of food reformulation for improved nutrition and health outcomes in Southeast Asia. Discussions focused on key themes, such as regulations and country-specific initiatives, scientific approaches to enhance public health, including the use of pre- and probiotics, micronutrient fortification, and bioactive compounds, and the role of innovation in improving product quality and consumer acceptance. ILSI SEA Region Annual Meeting 2025
April 23 - 24, 2025, Bangkok, Thailand
This year’s Annual Meeting was held on 23 – 24 April 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand, bringing together the entity’s Members, Science Advisers and key stakeholders to review and deliberate on organizational affairs and emerging scientific topics, as well as exchange insights on priorities and directions to undertake in the areas of nutrition, food safety and sustainable food systems.

In Memoriam: Dr. Siti Muslimatun
ILSI Southeast Asia Region deeply mourns the passing of Dr. Siti Muslimatun, who served for many years as a Scientific Adviser and Country Coordinator for Indonesia.
Dr. Muslimatun was an esteemed nutritionist and academic whose work significantly advanced the field of public health nutrition in Indonesia and the region. Her contributions spanned maternal and child health, micronutrient interventions, and food fortification, where her research and leadership helped shape effective policies and community programs.
Over her many years with ILSI SEA Region, Dr. Muslimatun played an important role in strengthening scientific collaborations, guiding research efforts, and contributing to the development of programs in Indonesia and in the region. She was a consistent and trusted voice in our annual meetings, symposia, and program discussions.
Beyond her technical expertise, Dr. Muslimatun was widely admired for her generosity in mentorship and her commitment to building capacity in the next generation of nutrition scientists, serving as a faculty at Indonesia’s International Institute for Life Sciences (i3L).
Her passing is a great loss to the ILSI SEA Region community and to the broader field of nutrition. Dr. Muslimatun will be remembered not only for her contributions to science, but for her warmth, humility, and integrity. We extend our deepest sympathies to her family, colleagues, and the many individuals whose lives she touched.
Living Legends and Fellow of IUNS-ICN 2025
ILSI SEA Region proudly shares that our esteemed Science Advisors have received recognition at IUNS-ICN 2025 held in Paris, France.
Dr. Corazon A. Barba and Dr. Rodolfo F. Florentino, both from the Philippines and long-time members of ILSI SEA Region’s Panel of Science Advisors and Board of Directors, were honored as Living Legends. Dr. Imelda Angeles-Agdeppa, also from the Philippines and a member of ILSI SEA Region’s Panel of Science Advisors and Expert Working Group, was named as an IUNS Fellow. These recognitions celebrate their outstanding leadership and notable contributions to nutrition science, research, and programs in the Philippines, Southeast Asia, and beyond.
ILSI SEA Region congratulates Dr. Barba, Dr. Florentino, and Dr. Agdeppa on this important recognition of their lifelong dedication and achievements which continue to inspire and advance the field of nutrition and health.
