OBJECTIVES
This one-day symposium aimed to:
- Provide a scientific update on the role of polyphenols in human health and disease prevention, including recent changes in scientific consensus and communication challenges.
- Provide a summary of the science behind current polyphenol dietary recommendations with reference to the 2010 Heart Foundation position paper on antioxidants in food, drinks and supplements to guide foods and beverages for discussion.
- Outline why health professionals and food companies should promote specific polyphenols in specific food and drink rather than general 'antioxidants'
