Background

There is growing recognition that in our increasingly urbanized world, there are widening gaps in nutrition well-being across populations. This has given rise to concerns about public health issues related to diet and lifestyle; food and nutrition security; as well as the environment and sustainability. Advances in nutrition science and knowledge, and innovations in technology are driving governments to provide more robust policy guidance, ignite research and initiate new approaches towards reshaping consumers’ dietary practices.

However, new media and globalized channels of communication have unfortunately allowed misinformation to proliferate, including misinformation in the areas of food, nutrition and technological innovations in the food supply chain. This has generated widespread public confusion, misunderstanding, and misleading guidance for consumers.

In this fast-evolving landscape, it is even more critical for effective public policy to be informed by evidence-based science. This in turn depends on scientists and experts to conduct research, evaluate results, and communicate their findings to stakeholders for sound decision-making.

This 2-part webinar series to be organized on October 15 and October 23, will bring eminent researchers, thought-leaders in nutrition science, and experienced science communication experts to share their insights, discuss appropriate dietary guidance, and recommend strategies for translating evidence-based science into effective public health policies and consumer guidance.
