Food Toxicology Conference

Singapore , Singapore
26/01/2021 – 29/01/2021
Web-based Conference

Organized by: Singapore Food Agency
Co-organized by: A*STAR, ILSI SEA Region and Nanyang Technological University

The Food Toxicology Conference 2021: Opportunities and Challenges for the Safe Use of Nanomaterials in Food is jointly organized by the The Singapore Food Agency (SFA), the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), the International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI), the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the Future Ready Food Safety Hub (FRESH) platform*. The inaugural conference invites key opinion leaders and global stakeholders from government, industry and academia convene to share and discuss the latest developments, challenges, and opportunities in the safe use of nanomaterials in food.

Nanomaterials have been used in a variety novel applications in materials engineering and biomedical sciences. The use of nanotechnology and presence of nanomaterials in the food supply chain has grown rapidly in recent years, creating an impact on various aspects of the food industry, from how food is produced at the farm, processed and finally reach the consumers. While much work had been done on the understanding the toxicity risk assessment of nanomaterials, but there are still knowledge gaps in the area of nanomaterials and its application in food. This conference would provide insights from domain experts in regulatory and academia field to help us understand what are some of the opportunities and challenges associated with the use of nanomaterials in both food and packaging materials.

The Conference will be held over four half-day sessions comprising of the following:

Session 1: Application of nanotechnology in Food and Food packaging
Session 2: Analytical and Toxicological Approaches to Nanomaterials
Session 3: Risk Assessment Approaches for Nanomaterials
Session 4: Challenges in Regulating Nanomaterials: Keeping pace with the science

The Food Toxicology Conference 2021 will include keynote speakers from USA, Europe, China and ASEAN countries. A panel discussion will be held as part of Session 4 to address some of the challenges in regulating the use of nanomaterials in food.

*FRESH is a scientific public-private partnership platform jointly established by A*STAR, SFA and NTU under the Singapore Food Story R&D Programme, to build local food safety science and R&D capabilities to support new food innovation ecosystem, to support the national effort to secure Singapore’s food supply and economic value proposition.
